DISTORTED PERFECTION MA (2021)
'Distorted Perfection' was the title of my Final Major Project at Kingston University.
'Distorted Perfection' is a magazine and digital brand that challenges body ideologies within the media and magazines, tackling them through the use of graphics and distortion. It uses motion and glitch as well as fun, bold and colourful imagery, aiming to take away the immediate reaction that some have, to compare their own bodies. I utilise imagery from top models and influencers. The platform and magazine also has testimonials along with personal experiences from the general public, helping to reassure others that their feelings on body image and ideologies are not individual to themselves. The platform's main aim is to spread positivity in a space filled with negativity.
This project was in response to my research question: "In what way can distortion be used as a means to challenge 'idealistic' representations of women in today's media and society".

There are fours video versions of Distorted Perfection. There is the flip book version, a video version of the magazine that shows still imagery in the order of the physical magazine. The rest are all video versions of my imagery. One version is designed to replicate the pages of a real magazine, two videos per spread, with each video representing one page. This. version is pictured being used throughout social media or on personal technologies such as computers or iPads. Another version shows each video singularly to show more detail and give each video its own moment. It is pictured being used on social media and on electronic marketing boards such as bus stops. The final version shows a collection of videos (eight per frame), this pictured being used as projections on large wall spaces or billboards.
