MAGAZINE PROJECT BA (2020)

This project was a continuation of my 2019 magazine studies. The aim of this project was to deconstruct magazines and create a distortion of the original imagery through reconstruction using collage. The importance and meaning of this work was to take away stereotypes or sexualisation of women displayed in high-end magazines. My target was for women of all shapes, sizes, races, ages, disabilities etc, to be able to look at my work and not feel the need to compare themselves. This work was full of colour and vibrancy. This use of colour was important to me, as it helped give a different perspective to some of the darker, more dull imagery you would normally find in a fashion magazine. The end of this project was cut short, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Our third year degree show was cancelled. I envisioned my collages as an installation, filling up a whole room. A room full of colour, where people would not be able to recognise that the original imagery used was from magazines such as Vogue. Our cancelled show was taken over by Art Aesthetica magazine. They selected a few students to be represented in the pages of their magazine and for every student to be showcased online. I was lucky enough to have a feature in both; you can see this in my exhibitions and features in my experience section.
